The reason why Hashem gave us the Torah!

The central reason for the giving of the Torah to Klal Yisroel is so that they will place their trust in Hashem, as the Pesukim (Tehilim 78:5-7) state: [And He established testimony in Jacob, and He set down a Torah in Israel, which He commanded our forefathers to make them known to their sons. In order that the last generation might know, sons who will be born should tell their sons.] And they should put their hope in G-d, [and not forget the deeds of G-d, and keep His commandments.] For the main point of everything is true bitachon, and it is the sum total of all the Mitzvos!

(Vilna Gaon, Mishlei 22:19)

Every word of G-d is refined; He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him. (Mishlei 30:5) The Mitzvos number is 613 and they are all included in one, as Chazal state (Makos 24a): Chavakuk came and established them [all six hundred and thirteen Mitzvos] on one, as the Pasuk (Chavakuk 2:4) states, “And the righteous, will live by his beliefs.”

(Vilna Gaon Mishlei 30:5)

What is Bitachon?

The Vilna Gaon understands the pasuk, “And the righteous, will live by his beliefs,” as a reference to bitachon. Emunah is believing in Hashem and all He has revealed to us in His Torah. Bitachon is actually living your everyday-life based upon that Emunah.

Next week we will discuss why Bitachon, in the words of the Vilna Gaon is, “The central reason for the giving of the Torah to Klal Yisroel” and “The main point of everything.”

PRINTABLE VERSION Bitachon- The reason why Hashem gave us the Torah!
